Ninth-and-a-Half Post

Everytime I see the word “ninth” I’m reminded of a moment:

Years ago, when I used to take karate, there was this other kid in class named Luis Guzman. Luie’s sad story was that he’d eaten lead paint chips when he was a kid, and ended up with pretty nasty brain damage (but also, mercifully, a hefty settlement). Anyway, we were practicing one day when he told me, with a look of triumph and excitment in his eyes, that he’d found the shortest word in the dictionary: “nth.”
